Hawaiian words for wrapping presents
Sep 01, 2023Welina kakou me ke aloha,
This time of year, your Hawaiian might take a back seat to the holidays (it’s okay, I get it), but remember that consistency is the key to your progress.
So I’m offering you a few different Hawaiian phrases you can use this Holiday season.
Do you like to give and receive presents? Do you enjoy wrapping them up or do you put them in fancy gift bags? Or maybe you just hand it over au’ natural and call it good…
However you feel about gifts, here are some things you can say in Hawaiian as you wrap and give presents to your family and friends.
E oki ma anei me ka upa—Cut here with the scissors.
E waiho i ka makana ma luna o ka pepa—Place the gift on the paper.
E opiopi i ka pepa a puni i ka makana—Fold the paper around the present.
A e hoopaa i ka pepa me ka leki—And then seal up the paper with the tape.
Here is a downloadable coloring page with Hawaiian words about a gift.
As I mentioned last week, my wife, Emily, and I are teaming up this month to give you a printable handout that you can share with others to help perpetuate Hawaiian language and culture during the holidays.
Good luck with all the gift wrapping and upcoming holiday plans. I’ll see you next week with a few phrases you can use when you get together with your friends and family.
Aloha,
Malu
