Sep 04, 2023

Aloha kakou,

If you’ve been here for a while, it shouldn’t be a surprise when I say that you can find most answers to your questions about learning Hawaiian by listening to Native speakers.

By consistently listening to Native speakers, you will naturally start to learn:

  1. Vocabulary
  2. How to use vocabulary
  3. Hawaiian expressions
  4. Over-all sound (pronunciation, intonation, etc.)

Here are a few places you can listen to Native Speakers:

What’s holding you back from listening to Native speakers? If listening to Native speakers makes you feel overwhelmed or you just don’t understand what’s being said - that’s completely normal. If you don’t think you’ll get anything out of it - you’re not the only one.

Here’s a bit of a newsflash for all of you: in this case, being overwhelmed is a good thing. Feeling some pressure is part of the process and shows you’re in a healthy learning environment. You should be out of your comfort zone. I, and many others, can attest to how many benefits will come from listening even when you cannot understand (yet).

Don’t knock it ‘till you try it.

You may not fully understand the benefits of listening to Native speakers, but I do!

So, give it a try, k?

Hit reply and let me know, what are you going to listen to next?

Me ka paipai no,

Malu
