Are you aware of non-traditional Hawaiian words that you use?

Sep 01, 2023

Aloha,

As we circle through the four pillars of learning Hawaiian (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), this month we are back to listening. I have a lot to share with you and I couldn’t fit it all in one email, so I will be sharing a little bit each week in May.

This month you will learn…

  • How Native speakers have no problem expressing themselves using traditional Hawaiian words (they didn’t use the new, made up words we have now).
  • How Hawaiian words were created traditionally.
  • How modern Hawaiian words have been created (and why it’s a problem).
  • Why we should seriously consider perpetuating traditional words versus new words.
